Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris, who took the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after his victory in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs. Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT. The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, trailing with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at Turn Four during the early running. Tsunoda slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the barrier. Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, turning around through the high-speed corner before the final bend on to the start-finish straight. Hamilton finished practice in P19, trailing teammate the Monegasque driver. The McLaren pair were far ahead of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber P3, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's pace. Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
