French officials have consented to start intercepting migrant vessels in the Channel, following months of pressure from the United Kingdom.

This policy shift comes after the Prime Minister wrote to the French leader asking him to back the initiative and stating there presently "have no effective preventive measure" in the Channel.

French maritime police have been authorized to stop the migrant vessels at sea, but exclusively prior to they've collected their passengers, according to official statements.

French authorities have rarely acted to prevent the heavily loaded boats departing from the coastline because it is considered excessively high a danger to both personnel and individuals.

"It is essential that we implement these methods this month... We have zero effective prevention in the Channel waters."

Currently, a French naval police representative states officers will start intervening at sea, with the objective of safeguarding lives.

Significantly, the official ruled out the use of entanglement devices to stop boats, which had earlier been reported as a possible method to disable the propellers of the vessels.

This determination to take action at all is a significant step forward, following a short-lived change towards a more aggressive strategy this summer, which ceased when the previous government official departed from office.

That was highlighted in the summer month, in the run-up to a summit between the UK leader and President, when authorities were observed walking into the sea to damage the hulls of a vessel.

Currently French authorities will once more be allowed to intercept boats prior to they pick up migrant individuals from the beaches of France's north coast, although it's uncertain how the small boats will be prevented.

Strong winds are presently postponing the commencement of intervention operations and the human trafficking networks will be seeking ways to adapt to evade interception, as they have frequently done in the previous instances.

The Home Office and Downing Street have been contacted for response.
